Episode Thirty-Seven: Rhonda Coleman and Brandon Swanson
This week we discuss two cases that are seemingly unrelated. One is missing and the other found murdered. What these cases do have in common is that both the victims cars were found in otherwise perfect condition yet holding no clues to their owner's whereabouts.
On May 17 1990, Rhonda Sue Coleman left a senior class meeting and was to head home after dropping off a friend at a store in the city of Hazelhurst at around 11pm. However, after not returning home, her car was found abandoned beside a highway with the car still running, the driver's door opened and Rhonda's purse inside.
Three days later, Rhonda's body was discovered in a wooded area. An autopsy was completed however no cause of death could be determined. Rhonda's killer has never been found.
On May 14 2008, Brandon Swanson was heading to Marshall, Minnesota. Sometime while driving, his car crashed into a ditch leaving it temporarily immobilized. Brandon ended up calling his parents and asked them to come and pick him up, and even though they went looking for him they were unable to find him. After his father called him back, Brandon said that he would head to the nearby town of Lynd so it would be easier to find them.
In the middle of the conversation with his parents, he swore and the call was suddenly cut off. Despite calling back several times, his father couldn't get back in contact with him, and after the police were notified they found his car - they never located him or his cell phone.
