Episode Twenty-Four: June Robles
On April 25 1934, six-year-old June Robles was walking home from school with her cousin when she was abducted by a dirty and emaciated man driving a Ford sedan.
That same day, her father receives a ransom demand for $15000 to be paid for June's safe return. This ransom letter would be the first of a back and forth correspondence between the kidnappers and June's father, Fernando Robles.
After 19 days, June is found chained in a cage buried in a hole in the Arizona desert. She is found dirty and bruised but otherwise unharmed. Despite a thorough investigation into June's kidnapping by the FBI, the grand jury questioned whether a kidnapping happened at all.
Who was responsible for the kidnapping of June Robles? The Mexican couple allegedly seen with June after her kidnapping? The Dillinger gang as revenge on the Tucson police? Or someone closer to June?
