Episode Twenty-Two: Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose

Dee Dee Blancharde was the carer of her sick 19-year-old daughter, Gypsy Rose. Due to a series of unfortunate events, they moved around a lot. Gypsy had many serious diagnosis and medical problems ranging from leukemia to only being able to eat via a feeding tube.

What Dee Dee didn't know is that Gypsy was living a secret online life. One that was very adult in comparison to her childlike day-to-day persona. Gypsy met her boyfriend of two years, Nicholas Godejohn on an online Christian dating website and together they plotted Dee Dee's murder. On June 14 2015, Dee Dee was found dead in her home, a victim of a violent and brutal assault.

What comes out later is a web of deceit and abuse. Gypsy did not have leukemia. She did not need a wheelchair. She was not 19-years-old but actually 23-years-old. Nicholas had murdered Dee Dee while Gypsy waited in another room. The two ran away back to Nicholas's home in another state where the police found them after tracing a disturbing Facebook post on Gypsy and Dee Dee's shared account.

What would cause a child to kill her mother? Why would Dee Dee claim Gypsy was so sick when she wasn't? Is Gypsy guilty of murder or a victim desperate to escape after years of abuse?
